George Crotty is a crossover cellist focused on reimagining the role of the cello. Born in Toronto, Canada, he traces his lineage to Irish fiddlers in Co. Clare, and a family of proud Jewish musicians, traceable back to Felix Mendelssohn. A recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music, he looks to cello pioneers like Eugene Friesen, Mike Block, Natalie Haas, Rushad Eggleston, Jacob Szekeley, Rufus Cappadoccia, Mark Summer, and Erik Friedlander, among others, for inspiration. An active freelancer and performer in Canada and the United States, George aspires to forge a new linguistic path for the cello, integrating elements from Eastern, Celtic, and Jazz traditions.
